NEW PARISH PRIEST

Fr Ignatius PARISH PRIEST

          Fr Peter ASSOCIATE

INTRODUCING THE NEW PARISH PRIEST OF ST. LAWRENCE OF BRINDISI PARISH, LIMULUNGA

Greetings to you all from St. Lawrence of Brindisi Parish, Limulunga.

Fr. Ignatius Lubasi Muyunda Chanakila is our new Parish Priest. He was ordained a priest in 2007 by Bishop Paul Francis Duffy, OMI. Recently in the month of July he was appointed Parish Priest of St. Lawrence of Brindisi Parish. He has been transfred from St. Martin De Porres Parish, Kaoma where he was Parish Priest. St Martin's Parish is the biggest Diocesan run parish in terms of the number of Mass Centres. He is now settling in the new parish and work is going on well.

Briefed fully about the relationship which exists between the two parishes, Fr Ignatius has resolved that his assistant, Fr Peter continueS to handle the official communication between the two parishes. However he would love to keep up the relationship by writing from time to time. Fr Ignatius was told about Fr Sallis' transfer from St Benedict as well to another parish, Sacred Heart and so will appreciate to keep the correspondence with the new Pastor, Fr Mark.

Fr Peter:     kwalepetros@gmail.com

May the good Lord bless us all abundantly as we continue to shepherd his flock.

With love and prayers,

IKWICHI / MOMBO PASTORAL VISITATION REPORT:

This Pastoral visitation was undertaken from the 7th  to  9th September 2012. The members on board were: Fr. Muyunda, Mrs. C.Ndopu, Mr. and Mrs. Kabamba, Mr. P.Mushiba and Mr. David Liwena.
Apologies: Mr. Victor Amusaa

We stared off on Friday around 17.00 hours; this camping was destined for two camps, the main camp to be at Ikwichi and the other members to be at Mombo Church. Unfortunately when we reached Ikwichi the people were not ready for us, and they told us that they were not aware of our coming; we informed them that we had to proceed to Mombo and we shall have Mass with them on Sunday as we come back from Mombo.
At Mombo we arrived past 18.00 hours, we found the faithful waiting for us and the welcome was very positive.  We right away went into video showing on the Passion of Jesus and the book of Revelation, the video shows continued even after supper up to 23.30 hours. The gathering was quite huge as it comprises of people from various denominations.
The following day Saturday, after breakfast we started with the following lessons:
§  Economic Empowerment (Grow Bank) – Mr.P. Kabamba
§  Self – sustainability – Mr. P.Mushiba
§  Mpo yaka ku Mulimu – Fr. Muyunda
In the afternoon we continued with the following activities:
§  Leadership – Mrs. C.Ndopu
§  Review of Sacramental lessons – Mr. David Liwena
§  Preparation  for Sunday Liturgy (new  R.M. responses) – David Liwena
After supper we had video shows on the book of Prophet Jeremiah and on the Life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. After each part of the video show, the pastoral team members in turns gave some five minutes evangelization on what the audience had just been watching in relation to their lives and Faith.

Saturday Evaluation:

§  RCIA lessons: the teachers are there but there is No class at the moment……..those who were baptised by Fr. Kwaleyela are also NOT taught the confirmation lessons as it was agreed upon. Most of those who were baptised do not come to Church on Sundays??
§  Marriage Instructors’: currently there is none, but there is one couple which is ready to undergo  marriage lessons
§  The faithful really appreciated  how Fr. Muyunda clearly  explained to them on the issue of giving “Tithe” – Mpo yaka ku Mulimu

On Sunday the day started with Mass at 09.30 hours. In attendance were 81 members: 30 children, 15 men, 12 youth and 24 women. The flow of Mass was quite good and so was the singing, during the hour of Holy Communion 18 members received the Eucharist. Before the concluding rite, Fr. Muyunda launched the “Mpo yaka ku Mulimu” cards. They were 51 cards in all, and it was amazing how the congregate responded wholeheartedly by getting all the cards which were presented to them. The Mass ended at 11.30 hours; it was agreed that an overnight will take place on 21st September 2012. Immediately after lunch we had to depart for Ikwichi Center for another evangelization and Mass.

IKWICHI REPORT:

At Ikwichi Center, it was really impressing to find that some members were still waiting for us despite our delay to arrive from Mombo. The Mass started at 13.15 hours and in attendance were; 13 children, 2 youth, 4 men and 12 women, bringing the total number to 31. The issue of self – sustainability was raised by Fr.Muyunda during homily, by reading through the book of prophet Malachi chapter three with the faithful, which talks about giving “Tithe”.
Verses from 3 to 11 reads: “…Yet you try to cheat me...over tithe and contributions. … Bring the tithe in full to the treasury, so that there is food in my house; put me to the test now like this … and see if I do not open the floodgates of heaven for you and pour out an abundance blessing for you.” The members present accepted the message right there and then. They all agreed to have the cards together with their family members in the next visitation.
During the time for Holy Communion 12 members received the sacrament of Eucharist. Before the end of Mass Fr. Muyunda asked the faithful as to where they do take their Sunday collections? In response the members responded that they do utilize the funds for Church activities; this came about after the members informed the Parish priest that they had utilized some of the Sunday collections to buy talk time for communication purposes.
Father Muyunda reminded the members that all the Sunday collections should be taken to the main Church; he further added on to mention to them that what they were currently doing was more or less like stealing from the Church. Mr. Mushiba was therefore summoned to sit down with the treasurers in order to account for all the Church monies that have been spent so far.

PASTORAL RECOMMENDATONS FOR IKWICHI CENTER:
1.      Ikwichi needs much support in terms of Pastoral spheres
2.      An urgent overnight is needed in order to pray together with the faithful
3.      There is need for more Service Leaders ( Sundays & Funerals)
4.      The pastoral team needs to visit the Center very frequently
5.      Sacramental lessons to be revamped

Challenges:
§  High rate of illiteracy
§  Members shunning responsibilities (lack of self confidence)
§  Much belief on witchcraft issues

Way forward:

1.      Four (04) proposed names from Ikwichi Center to be sent to the main Church in readiness for the one week Training of Catechizers’ in November 2012
2.      The Center will also propose suitable dates for a 3 days Pastoral camping; the dates will be communicated to the Pastoral desk in due course.
